Foodwise, the Thanksgiving holiday is a big bust for me.
I don’t like turkey (too birdy), ham (too piggy), stuffing (too bready), cranberry sauce (too slimy) or any kind of pie (again, too slimy). Honestly, I’d rather have fish sticks (yummy!).
But that doesn’t mean I’m not filled with gratitude this holiday. I’m totally thankful for my beauty blogging buddies who have me looking better in my forties than I ever did in my twenties.
Sooooo, a huge Thanksgiving burst of appreciation to:
Beautylogic – If you followed her advice and grabbed NYC’s Sun 2 Sun Bronzing Powder, you had the most gorgeous sun kissed cheeks this summer for only $5. It’s a bargain bronzer that really gives a department store look!
Anti-Hair Slave and Nessasary Makeup – I got turned on to Humectress Luxe Ultimate Moisturizing Leave-In Spray by these blogs. And I love the stuff. I opt to spray a bit on my hair before I wrap it for the night. It keeps my super dry mane feeling smooth, silky and moisturized.
Make-up By RenRen – I was a RenRen beauty stalker long before I started my own blog. Her brilliant video tutorials are like having a make-up artist on stand-by 24/7. She makes tricky techniques look so easy, doesn’t she?
Karen of a Certain Age – Having to don unfashionable reading glasses made me feel oh-so-old, until this blog introduced me to the oh-so-adorable Eyebobs line of reading glasses. I opted for the Smitten Kitten cat-eye glasses in tortoise. They make reading after-40 both chic and easy!
Clumps of Mascara and The Home Spa Goddess – I was never much of an eyeshadow girl, but their recommendation of Urban Decay’s Eyeshadow Primer Potion ($16 at Sephora) has totally ramped up my eye game. This stuff works! Okay, I know I’ve read about the wonders of this product on even more blogs, however these two stand out in my mind because their posts included videos.
J.CrewAholics and Brown Girl Gumbo - Your blogs make me spend, spend, spend. I’ve bought so much because of ya’ll, I can’t even begin to list the items. So why am I thankful? Because your great clothing picks are going to make me the most fashionable woman in the poor house!
Product Junkie Diva – I always walked right past the Aveda store at the mall, because I didn’t think their products would work on my hair. Wrong! After reading reviews of their Damage Remedy line on this blog, I gave it a try. The results were amazing. Pricey, but worth every dime.
Coup de Coeur – For getting me back into my Bobbi Brown pot rouges. I’d forgotten how much pretty was packed into those little pots until I saw photos of your gorgeous Bobbi makeover. Now I'm using them all the time.
Calming Corners – This blog is my daily reminder to nurture both my body and spirit. Always good tips for feeling great - inside and out.
Keep in mind, I only included a tiny sampling of the wonderful tips I’ve gotten from so many awesome beauty bloggers. If your blog wasn’t mentioned, it’s not because I’m not thankful. But this was post was turning into a book and I had to wrap it up to get ready for Friday - the biggest shopping day of the year!
awww thanks chica! I'm thankful for you because you've set a great example for me, 40 is really the new 20...your youthfulness and success in the literary world has inspired me...i can't wait till my 40s!

i have to ditto what amina said: you are too flyyyy!
ReplyDeleteAuntie, Imma need for you to stop trippin' and eat some turkey. I feel you though. Turkey is very..."birdy". HA!!!
ReplyDeleteThe fact that I call you "Auntie" means something. You are the Black woman that aspire to be like. It's great that I have examples like you, my own Mommy, Michelle Obama, Auntie Luxe Tips...I love yall. And whatcho know 'bout that UDPP? LOL! Love you and I'll be killing a slice of sweet potato pie in your honor (but I'll also be makin' love to the gym too....haaa!)
And thank you for introducing me to the beauty blog phenomenon. I came across here expecting to find another writerly blog and enjoyed your posts so much I began exploring the links in your sidebar, which took me to the beauty vids on YouTube - and presto! An obsession was born.
ReplyDeleteJust so you get an idea of the damage you (and your beauty-blog pals) have done, here's the new stuff in a spanking new iron-and-wicker basket in my bathroom:
-Miss Jessie's Baby Buttercreme
-Miss Jessie's Curly Meringue
-Carol's Daughter Mimosa Hair Honey
-Pantene R&N Deep Conditioning Mask
-Organix Coconut Milk shampoo & conditioner
-Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil Hair Lotion
-African Pride Herbal Healing Shampoo
-Herbal Essences Hello Hydration moisturizing for those co-washes (never even heard that term before I started this blog journey)
-T-Rex hair clips (fell in love with these over on Honey. Brown. Sugar.)
-Duckbill clips
-A darling of a leather make-up bag from Belle Hop...
On Friday when I get paid I'm visiting the M.A.C. store. I spent hours on their website and my list is so long I'll have to do some major culling. And you don't want to see the stuff waiting in my Amazon cart! Kinky Curly Curling Custard & Knot Today, a brand new hair dryer (I gave away the old one when I went natural), BareMinerals, and more!
"My name is Liane and I'm a brand new product junkie..."
Happy Thanksgiving!
Hey doll! Thanks for the shout out:) I love your blog , I wish I wrote as well. That's the reason I do videos:) Hope you & yours have a beauty full Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving. I miss you. You must be so busy writing . . . hope your lastest story is coming along well
ReplyDeleteRegarding Thanksgiving: I know you are so damned picky about your food. Birdy. Piggy. Slimy. Shesh! Have a good one.
Well WELCOME BACK PHYLLIS!!! I was just cruising by, HOPING there'd be something new here and VOILA!
ReplyDeleteThat Urban Decay product reminds me of a "marital aid" that a friend of a friend of a friend ordered...
I love the BB rouge pots and use them every day instead of powdered blush. They make you look like you're blushing from within. You just "kiss" your finger in the pot, then dab on your cheek and blend. That's all it takes. Blush totally makes a girl "pretty" in my book. A lot of people just don't use it, but it really adds beauty to otherwise ho-hum forty year old skin.
Hi there-thanks for stopping by! Lovely blog and good luck with your books too, you are a very talented lady!
